In the dying flickering candle flame,
I see my memories burn.
A pen in stand, a bare sheet at hand,
and flashes of old times return.
There are thoughts I want none to read,
feelings I want to hide.
My words are lost in the fight within,
like a shadow in the night.
The flood now stands raging at the gate,
waiting for the dam to break.
I fear to confront my own mind,
there's only so much my heart can take.
I wish I could just sleep this away,
for only my dreams now give me hope.
In the dead of night I stare at the starts,
in it's darkness, for peace, my heart now gropes.
With a heavy heart and a deep sigh,
I begin to trace the words.
Of love, of pain, of a past unexplained,
of shades of me that none's heard.
My sun now burns a shade of gray,
I stand here, undone.
My words beat me down like the pouring rain,
And in this rain I burn.

My words beat me down like the pouring rain,
And in this rain I burn.
